a penny for my thoughts

-six inches of snow last night, 75 minutes commute to work this morning, same as any other day which includes:
10 minutes walk to lightrail stop
40 minutes lightrail ride
15 minute bus ride
10 minutes walk to my cubicle

-denver weather, snowstorm and a crappy morning commute. afternoon sunshine and blue skies.

-annoyance: stupid people driving stupid while talking on their cell phones.

-interesting fact: my husband use to think scooters were for chicks, now he rides "my" scooter more than I do.

-facebook is a new addiction, as well as a tool to reconnect with old friends. I'm also tempted to compare myself to where everyone else is in life.

-december should just be paid vacation because how much work really gets done at the end of the year? plus the fact that I can't concentrate on anything work related.

-i could really get use to having my husband home full time. i love coming home and deciding together what to have for dinner. even fighting over what we watch is more fun than sitting alone on the couch.

Happy Hour in Denver

Haven't you always wanted that restaurant where people knew you when you walked in the door, like Cheers? An affordable place that was local to your house so you could visit anytime and all the time. I found my place, it's called Kiva or rather I should say, it was called Kiva. The restaurant closed it's doors in August, never to serve it's $2 margaritas again.

I'm moving on. Forget the free taco bar and dinner and drinks for $6 a person including a tip to the nice taco lady. There are other great deals to be had in Denver.

McCormick's is already a favorite for it's $1.95 food menu and $2.75 PBR. We usually get the the 1/2 pound cheeseburger and leave stuffed.

Lola in the Highlands has $3 tacos (I think it use to be $2), $4 gauc and $2 Modelo can. Nice location to look at Denver's skyline.

Brasserie Ten Ten in Boulder looks to have an amazing happy hour menu 3-6:30 PM with food and drinks under $5.

Lime XS advertises a happy hour tacos, I'm going to try it out tonight.

Nothing will fill the space left from Kiva, but I can sure try!
(Let me know of any other great denver happy hours!)

my new fav wine

i love wine that cost under $10 and here is my new favorite. veramonte cabernet sauvignon 2006. try it out for some blackberry, cherry and oak. we had it sunday with chili and is from south america, chile. wine news gave it a 92 which is quite the buy. i picked up my bottle from argonaut liquors for $9.50.

busy week

the week started off with a bang or rather a steady throb in my head. of late, i've been getting migraines more frequently, about once a week. not quite sure what's causing them, but they can stop anytime now.

be coincidence, my doctor called for a sleep study appointment the same day. the history there is that i don't sleep well and i am tired all day long most everyday. so the last time i was in to see the doctor or PA, she ordered a sleep test for me. that was about 3 months ago. i setup the test for tuesday night. i was hooked up to computers that monitored my blood pressure, my breathing, oxygen intake, brain waves etc. needless to say, i didn't sleep much that night. wait and see what comes about.

Saturday we got the pleasure of hanging out with my cool niece and nephews. the kiddos were easy to be with and we had a blast at the Denver Art Museum. the first saturday of each month, admission is free for colorado residents and the cool new Hamilton building makes it worth the trip. something has to be said for introducing art into a child's life and what defines art which stretched the kids brain. and i have to give 2 thumbs up for the DAM's ability to be kid-friendly with so many activities to keep them busy, we had to make the kids leave. see the kids being part of art in the broom and dustpan.

then we headed to casa bonita, a once in a life time trip, seriously you only need to go once. peter describes it as disneyland in colorado because they shamelessly try to get money from the parents for cheap toys and the like. the kids love it because there is a skit where someone
always ends up in a "lagoon" below. it was disappointing that "bart's cave" was no more, as i remember the cave when i was in elementary school. the food is atrocious, you'd be better going to a hole in the wall down colfax for some authentic mexican food for a fraction of the price. overall, i think they liked it, but i hope they liked the museum better.

saturday i was disappointed because the honda shop didn't have the color scooter i had my heart set on and dealerships are closed on sunday. so sunday we went to brunch with my parents at vita and saw an awesome view of downtown denver. the weather has been gorgeous, perfect for scootering. sunday afternoon we put a basket on my retro bike and planned to lounge around. then peter started to search craigslist, which we absolutely love. he fould a red metropolitan scooter used. so after getting some fast cash, we headed to broomfield. saw the scooter and said, "we'll take it!"

next task was trying to get it back to denver. i'm not confident yet to ride, so peter was my knight on a scooter and rode it home. he loved it, said he felt like dumb and dumber and couldn't stop smiling. my turn tonight!

***don't forget to vote tomorrow and while you're at, some restaurants want to give you free stuff to boot. check out the list here!

fear not or your hair will turn gray

it has started to happen. to be truthful, it started 4 or 5 years ago. i remember sitting in my communication class in college, bored out of my mind. so i start looking at my hair and among the mass of black, i found a "clear" hair. i showed it to my male classmate, who so kindly pointed out that it was no big deal, just a grey hair. i was shocked and apalled at the thought of having a gray hair. i didn't think much of it until i started finding more and more clear pigmented hairs. so i did what any sane woman in her mid twenties would do, began plucking.

remember that old wives tale, if someone give you a fright, your hair will turn grey? i would like to believe that tale or at least a revised version, that every time i worry or am scared of the unknown that a single hair turns gray. then something so superficial as hair color would be in my control.

but isn't that my real problem? i want to be in control of my life, the going-ons and what not. and the fear comes when the reins are out of my hand and i have to trust God for his best. i'm good at worrying, right now it's how will have shelter for ourselves in the future. where will peter and i live? can we afford our dreams? and if we can afford our dream house, should we spend our money on that material possession? is it my right to own a house? these are all questions i ask myself. so how do i live delibrately with or without gray hair?

i think...

there was a bee in my shirt all afternoon. he flew in at lunch and never left. there was no squirming or a sting. an hour ago i pulled a leg from the back of my shirt. and just a minute ago a bee flew up behind my back, buzzing away. i kid you not.

back from a wonderful trip to china and south korea. there was tons to see and do, sensory overload really. we traveled only to the big cities, shanghai, beijing, Seoul, and Busan so there were people everywhere. yes, i live in downtown denver, but it doesn't even come close to comparing to these big cities. people everywhere, people doing weird things everywhere i turned my head. there were men spitting, women too, vendors asking to buy their ware, grown women holding hands, 3 people on a bicycle, huge stacks of glass bottles on the back of scooters and all of us trying to share a 5 foot wide sidewalk. personal space is a luxury.

and i was a foreigner in the midst of my birth place. you can't blame me for holding the country and it's people at arms length, the only thing connecting me is a small word on my passport. place of birth: korea.

some adoptees have a desire deep within them to meet their birth mother. they want answers to health questions or answers for their anger or just to feel the connection a mother and child feel or to say thank you. it's been thirty some years and that desire has not been placed on my heart. maybe someday, i'll need answers, maybe after i have children of my own and something awakens within me. and so for now i will whisper my thank you into a denver night, hoping someone halfway across the world can hear me.

laborless day

long weekends are fabulous! gives one the chance to relax, camp, catch up with friends, vacation or just veg out. i spent this weekend with friends and family.

the bute family was in town for a wedding and i can't pass up time spent with kevin and jill and their little girls. kylie is absolutely adorable. isn't it great how kids ask for what they want? thursday night we spent at matty and beck's place
bbq'ing and catching up with the butes. often times the adults would get deep in conversation and forget about kylie, but not for long. she would scream at the top of her lungs basically saying, "look at me, don't i look so cute?" and who could disagree that she was the cutest thing around. she melted hearts by resting her head on men's shoulders and running around the lawn throwing tennis balls 3 feet infront of her.

from the bqq, pete and i headed to evergreen for a fu
n filled family time. take away from this weekend... i like my nieces and nephews that are potty trained and don't have high pitched cries that make me cringe. since there are only 3 of those, all of which are my sister's kids, well those are my favorite right now. sorry nefret, kaylee, eliza, sammy, keegan, duke and caleb, i promise to like you more when you are about 5 years old.

regardless, i had a great weekend spending time with the family. anytime the whole summers clan gets together, it is madness, but good madness. kids running around constantly, video games going, adults having brief conversations and reverting b
ack to childhood tentencies.

i try so hard to pretend to be an adult, but the fact of the matter is when i get around my family, i revert to a 10 year old. being civil is thrown out the window and i want my way all the time. weird mix when there are actual children around. that's why family vacations are best when each adult/couple has their own room to recharge and close the door to the insanity and noise from the family.

Needless to say, i did not have my own room or my own space. the first night i spent on the floor while my husband and brother watched a movie. not comfy at all. the 2nd night, i slept on my sister's futon bed which was better than the first night, but somewhat lumpy. the 3rd, well i didn't make it to the 3rd night, we headed home so i could sleep in my own bed without the pitter patter of feet waking at ungodly hours.

takeaways from the weekend:

  • 18 adults/kids at a restaurant is insane. plan to sit by someone you can talk to all evening long. i sat by my nephew who thought i was the best thing since sliced bread for the weekend. he wanted to sit by me for every meal. i've racked my brain to figure out why i was so cool to him, but i got nothing.
  • it's nice to be a kid's favorite even if next time you see them, they can hardly remember your name. even adult want to feel loved and special especially coming from a kid.
  • "i spy" is the greatest game ever for a bored kid.
  • i had my doubts, but wii fit is fun for the whole family and so entertaining.
  • and lastly, i love love my family even though they annoy the heck out of me. you read it here, i would do anything for anyone of them.
sunday night grandma took us to white fence farm where we had delicious fried chicken and then the husband and i headed home for a full nights sleep.

me and one of my favorite nephews

monday we headed to park to get a little more time with the bute family before they left town. we dined on kfc (kentucky fried chicken for those less civilized) while bees followed us around. aparently they like fried chicken like the rest of us. kylie was there to smear dirt on her face and good times were had by all.

oh obama...

i really do want to like senator barack obama, really i do. i even want to like him enough to vote for him because let's face it, he's the hip and trendy candidate for president. he blogs, he texts, emails and quite frankly is well into the 21st century compared to the alternative john mccain.

BUT... here comes the empathic but. he speech was awful last night. obama wanted to come off as a new and different kind of politician, one that could lead this country, but instead he sounded like the same old suit who says the same old things that all democrats say. we don't want 8 more years, bush and mccain are one in the same, blah blah blah. did anyone else think that barack riped on mccain more than he gave an inspiring speech?

honestly, i had such high hopes for his speech. never hearing him speak, i wanted to hear this man that is known for his speaking talent. i wanted him to inspire me to vote for him. i wanted him to have a speech that would truly go down in history. instead it was the same tired talking politics. tear down the opponent while building myself up. promising the same things while putting this coutry further into debt. he told 1/2 truths by quoting statistics of how great the democrat party and how awful the republic party has been and then wrapped up by saying he wanted a different america with different politicians who aren't divided by party lines. you do realize obama you just got done drawing party lines in the first part of your speech?

50 years from now no one is going to be quoting from this speech because it wasn't inspiring.

i really, really wanted to like him...

Clouds

Clouds fascinate me. There are so many different types and the way light reflects through them is a different picture each day.

As a little girl, I use to lie in a big pile snow after I was worn out from sledding and stare up at the clouds floating by. Imagining them as dragons or bunnies dancing across the sky.

Now as an adult, I hardly take notice because I'm hurrying to get somewhere. Today I could not help but notice.

look at these melons

our little garden is getting a bit more crowded these days as we are in the dead of summer and 23 consecutive days of 90° temps... the veggies like. the sunflower is about 10 feet tall and our watermelon and cantalope are the size of softballs. i can't wait to make a tasty pasta salad with the dozens of cherry tomatoes i pick each visit to the garden.

there are multiple things we'll do differently next season like spread out the tomato plants and the vine like plants. plant less squash and more lettuce for daily salads. do composting. overall the community garden experience has been wonderful as we have met quite a few neighbors and feel like something bigger than just a couple living in a duplex. for more information about denver ubran gardens go to www.dug.org.

not so closet green thumb

i'm a first time gardener and i tell everyone i meet that i have a plot in the community garden. yes i toil in the ground everyday (almost) to grow my own vegetables, but funny that there are tons of fellow gardeners. closet green thumbs that quietly go about growing wonderful flowers and salad fixin's in their own backyard. how these people keep quiet about such a task as growing something from a seed to food, i don't understand. i get giddy every time i eat a complete salad that was grown 2 blocks from my house. the time we meticulously picked weeds and watered our veggie babies so they would grow big and strong. then there's the early stages when it's all work as we wait for something to grow from the ground. we question our watering methods, the seeds, the soil, the season as we hold our breathe for a sign of life. snow fell and we worried for the tomato plants that they would make it through the night.

and now 2 and half months later we are harvesting vegetables. we know all the work that went into growing them and how far they have traveled (2 blocks by foot) to get to our table. there is a sense of accomplishment growing something from a seed relying on the sun and the noutrients from the soil to do most the work. we are bound to the earth whether we realize it or not. i feel a kinship with farmers and even my ancestors who work the soil for their livelyhood. did adam and eve feel the joy i have from seeing their garden? i wonder if one day we will all be gardeners again, back to basics and back to the soil...

summer lovin'

denver summer nights are absolutely perfect as the sun sets over the mountains and temperatures drop just enough to be comfortable with or without a sweater. it's already july and i'm dying to enjoy a summer night with a movie under the stars. there are many venues around town that offer the free movies and a chance to gather the community. i want to bring a bottle of wine, some pasta salad, a french stick and cheese as a settle into my lawn chair for a classic film. hopefully i'll catch at least on outdoor movie before summer's end and most likely at film on fillmore.

colorado shakespeare festival has been around for years. set on the campus of the university of colorado at boulder in the outdoor mary rippon theater. wonderful red rocks as benches set the stage of a nature filled night of theater and entertainment. bring a cushion and a bottle of wine for maximum enjoyment. check out their calendar here.

things that got my eye right now...

  • just had brunch at duo located at 32nd and zuni in east highlands. delicious and well priced at around $8 for an egg dish. next time, i'm getting the "sweet thing" with onions, mushrooms and eggs, it's to die for! and their dessert is getting rave reviews as well.
  • cornhole is sweeping the nation, well at least I'm introducing all my aquaintenances to the game. much like horseshoes, but with a beanbag and board with hole, this game is addictive since little skill is needed.
  • the denver marathon has now enter my radar with a race date of october 19th, my goal has been defined. but will it be a full or 1/2 marathon?
  • i sit waiting with baited breath for my Pétanque set to be delivered to my front door. another outdoor game that is the french version of bocce ball. Pétanque uses metal balls and can be played on any surface. you can find me in the park drinking vino verde and playing lawn games.
  • i've been waiting to check out neighborhood flix on east colflax next to the new tattered cover bookstore. they have independent movies served with food. tuesdays is a steal with $6.50 ticket prices all day (regular adult is $10). rumor has it the Sesame Ginger Sweet Potato Fries sell better than the popcorn.
  • irish snug is a pub that started a run club 18 months ago that has grown to over 2000 members according to their website. tuesdays nike has a run club with good sandwiches and fruit after the run, the irish snug run club has pasta and discounted brews. i might try it out this week...

take me to... niketown

so you won't believe it when you read it, brace yourself, but i've let myself go. take a minute, laugh it out. i know what you are thinking, she sure doesn't look like she's gained an ounce. well i hid it well. i admit, i did all the stuff the quintessential bride-to-be does to get in shape and lose a few pounds around the waistline. who wouldn't when all eyes are on the bride? since the wedding, life has happened which doesn't leave a lot of time for working out especially in the winter. the slow decline started in march, as winter marched on and the appeal of running outside faded each night as the sun went down at 6. plus there were the boxes screaming to be unpacked at the new place and the fact that the inside temperature of my house is only a few degrees higher than the outside temperature in the winter (the house was built in the late 1800s), all i wanted to do was crawl into my cozy bed.

no big deal though, surely i could keep the extra pounds at bay by walking a few blocks here and there. and what about all those boxes i was shuffling around, weight training right? and when all my pants started to feel snug around the waist, i blamed it on the new dryer which was definitely shrinking my clothes ignoring the fact that most my work pants are dry clean only.

the wakeup call? finally stepping on a scale at goodwill... not a pretty sight. i'll spare you the details as most people know the horror of stepping on the scale after tricking yourself into thinking you weigh the same as when you were in college.

so this is week one of my turnaround "to a healthier, fitter, happier me." cheesy indeed, but it is true that i feel much better when i'm exercising. i have 2 action plans: ride my new road bike to work a few times a week and to do errands around town and sign up for a running race to motivate my running legs.

i've been wanting a road bike for over a year now, but i put it off because it was an intimidating process. i settled on a Giant OCR1w after looking at the trek women's bike and fuji. the nice guys over at arapahoe cyclery hooked me up and they offer free tune-ups for the life of the bike which is quite the deal. now i feel so fast compared to my mtn bike and i can't wait for the weather to turn warm so i can ride 20 miles to work.

tuesday i was the newbie at the niketown running club which meets weekly at 5:30. i ran the mile to get to niketown located on the 16th street mall in the denver pavilion. everyone was milling around the store, 2 out of 3 men to women who mostly were ripped or a runner's ripped anyway (read skinny no fat). a few quick announcements before we took off for rei via cherry creek bike path. everyone went their own pace and distance which is why i ended up running 4.5 miles instead of the 3 miles i planning on because i didn't know the route and just kept following anyone that looked familiar. when i got back to the store i was exhausted, but i stuck around for the free nike shoe raffle. plus they had free drinks and snacks and i got a drawstring bag for being new. two thumbs up for this free club that gives away nike gear and a group to push me on my runs. if only it was twice a week...

so there's the plan, typed out on my computer screen, my commitment to myself. progress and fallbacks to come.

information at my fingertips

enter my new centro smartphone. it's small, it's red, it's cute and oh so talented! let me list all it's skills:

camcorder
camera
address book
word documents
email
google maps
IM
text messaging
music
games
tv/video
web access

i want to know a restaurant around a certain location, but no labtop, no phone book... well centro to the rescue. google maps can find restaurants and even connect you to them with a push of a button. What's the score of the football game? let me check on espn mobile. look there is the coat you want for your birthday... i'll send a picture to your husband. the uses are endless and I sometimes find myself staying up late to play the daily sudoku puzzle.

i did have one problem with the original centro i was sent. after about 5 days the ear piece stopped working and i could only hear when i turned the phone to speakerphone. i tried everything to get the sound to work again even tried a hard reset (wiping all information from the phone), but nothing worked. magically the next day it started working. well i wasn't going to risk it cutting out again so i went to the sprint store and they easily replaced it in a snap. no problem yet with centro part 2.

a few things could be improved like the ability to get hotmail pushed to the server and access to opera mini which is a program that allows phone users to see the whole web and zoom into a certain part of the page. a useful program my husband has on his touch phone. the white color that AT&T offers looks sleek, too bad it's not an option for sprint. and speaking of sprint, i'm not a big fan of them nickel-and-diming me for the added services like text messaging. i understand that's how they make their revenue since it's pure profit with infrastructure in place, but please just bundle all data including text messaging into one cost.

all in all i love my new phone and hope for a few software updates to make it even better.

movie review: juno

i wasn't sure if this movie could live up to all the hype of being nominated for best picture, but i do love indie films that focus more on life and relationships than the special effects and high paid actors. and this film did not disappoint with ellen page playing juno, stealing the show with her quick-wit sarcastic humor who embodied the quintessential teenager at the same time handling the role of the scared pregnant girl like a pro. not quite best actress worthy because how hard is it for a teenage girl to be a teenage girl, but still great acting.

a brief storyline: juno has sex with her best pal, Paulie Blecker (Michael Cera) and surprise surprise, she gets pregnant. we see 4 seasons of juno's life including telling the parents, trying to figure out what to do with the baby, finding a suitable couple to raise the baby in the "penny saver" newspaper all the while doing life in high school. juno is forced to grow up fast making choices and learning about love and divorce all the while talking on her cheeseburger phone keeping her in teenage youth.

funny film that made me laugh at a not so funny situation. sort of made teen pregnancy look easy, not something i want to be teaching the youth of today...

randoms

good food and friends tonight at our new place in five points. finally we are able to host people for meals which was impossible at the old apartment/dorm living. orange curry chicken with candied carrots was on the menu tonight using the crock pot.

i have short hair now and hate it at this length. 2 inches need to come off to make it look somewhat cute, but i don't know if i want to deal with the hassle to get back into the salon.

slowly, slowly we are getting up packed. living room/dining room and kitchen are clean and neat, now we need to move to the 2nd bedroom/walk-in closet. finding something to wear that isn't closest to the top of the bag... priceless.

big, ugly tv is now setup for our viewing pleasure. you can't help but notice that thing the moment you step into our house, like a big sign reading "we don't care much about ascetics in this house, we are just addicted to the tv, so the bigger, the better." yippee for technology in tv where slimmer is sexier.

one week in the new house and i'm getting use to the quirks of the light switch placement, the extremely small bathroom and the constant cold because of inefficient windows and doors. i could love a house like this... of course as i steadily upgraded the imperfection so i wasn't literally throwing money out the window. ah, but i get a brand new house in golden.

speaking of plans of our custom house in golden, you might ask how that is going? well it's not. we need some much needed help on the plans to get the ball rolling. dreams of being in the new house before christmas are sliding away with each week that passes.

i love my husband because money or the appearance of money isn't important to him. i love him because "good enough" just won't cut it, if he is going to deliver, it is going to be the best. i love my husband.

a perfect island

i'm much better at taking care of myself than being a good wife. let's face it, i love me! i'm pretty close to nearly always right so things should be done my way. and when someone (usually my husband) does it differently and it fails, i will remind said person of their error. the one flaw to this selfish life is that i need people. i need my husband to be around. i need friends who will talk about real life. i need my family who love me even though i'm a brat. so there is this constant tension of wanting to let people into this warped life and pushing them away so that i can have my way. most times the island wins, but very rarely a glimmer of hope shines out onto the people around me. more and more of others, less of me.

art for everyone

good art is in the eye of the beholder and if the beholder happens to be a little light in the pocketbook, well shame on them! or wait, maybe expensive does not necessarily mean good art. i believe art should be affordable and so does jen bekman who started 20x200. it's a website where you can purchase limited editions of art at $20 for a smaller piece. their motto is large editions + low prices x the internet = art for everyone. i learned about jen bekman from a ny times article.

seared tuna ahi with wasabi-butter sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 10 fluid ounces white wine
  • 1/4 cup minced shallots
  • 1 tablespoon wasabi paste, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, or as needed
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro leaves
  • 6 (6 ounce) fresh tuna steaks, 1 inch thick

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine the white wine vinegar, white wine and shallots in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer until the liquid is reduced to about 2 tablespoons. Strain out shallot and discard, return liquid to the pan.
  2. Stir the wasabi and soy sauce into the reduction in the pan. Over low heat, gradually whisk in butter one cube at a time allowing the mixture to emulsify. Be careful not to let the mixture boil. When all of the butter has been incorporated, stir in cilantro, and remove from heat. Pour into a small bowl, and set aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brush tuna steaks with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Place in the hot skillet, and sear for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Be careful not to overcook, this fish should be served still a little pink in the center. Serve with sauce.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 35 minutes

we made this wonderful sauce last night for our tuna steak (that i bought at my favorite grocery store, sunflower market), yummy! my new husband is a wizard in the kitchen as we had to substitute a few ingredients. the recipe is from All Recipes and there were only glowing reviews.

please can colorado caucus

i believe in doing my civic duty and voting. it is my honor and responsibility to vote because i live free in a great country that setup a checks and balance system, so the least i can do is make my voice heard with a vote. but yesterday was super tuesday where a few dozen states went to make their voice heard within their respective parties and i gave up on the colorado caucus. i had every intention to vote, i researched my precinct number and then the location of my precinct, got in the car with the new husband and drove to the precinct at 6:30pm. my precinct was at the auraria auditorium which is on auraria campus which is in downtown denver. auraria campus took this opportunity to charge all who were to vote $10 to park in their lot. well i turned my little car right around and left because why should i have to pay to vote because i live in a big city? other precinct were at schools with free parking lots. so we turned on the news at 9pm and it turns out nothing had started yet at the auraria site because there were still people trying to park and get in the building.

do you believe in magic?

magic seems to be such a loaded word these days. some christians don't like to use the word because it conjures up images of wizards and witches and they need to explain everything as God's doing. i get that, but i like the thought of magic because it's unexplainable, something beyond what i can explain happened. it's also childlike, for instance when a father pulls a quarter out his daughter's ear and there is only amazement on the little girl's face... magic. i understand that magic can be confused by mystical stuff, but is a good start for americans today to start believing in something other than themselves? maybe magic is the pagan word for miracle? jesus' time on earth, he spent some time doing miracles: feeding 5000, healing the blind, making the lame to walk. i believe that he did all of these things and more, but calling them miracles sort of takes the awe and amazement out of the act, i think. this might be complete blasphemy, but i think magic is just a word, just like miracle and if miracle has gotten tired and loaded down with christian lingo, why can't we explain what God does as magic?

sometimes i sit watching a sunset totally taken back by all that has to happen, all the science and physics of it and just think, "do it again daddy, do it again!" magic.
